Martin Rickler, Ph.D., Vice President (800) 352-4287 Correctional Systems, Inc. (CSI) Announces Awards of two Community Correctional Center Contracts for Leavenworth, Kansas and Albuquerque, New Mexico. San Diego, California. March 26, 2002. Correctional Systems, Inc. (CSI), a private correctional management company started eight years ago by retired Federal Bureau of Prisons wardens and strengthened by professionals who pioneered the privatized corrections movement, announced today that they have been awarded two contracts by the Bureau of Prisons to operate Community Correctional Centers, one in the City of Leavenworth, Kansas, and the other in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
CSI currently operates five other Community Correctional Centers (CCC's), or halfway houses, in the State of Texas, three for the Bureau of Prisons, one for the State of Texas, and the other for a county in Texas. They also manage nine jails and have contracts for electronic monitoring, drug testing, and alcohol and other drug counseling. Residents of CCC's are within six months of release and are still in federal custody while residing in the halfway house. Those eligible for residency are the cream of the crop, having had no history of violence or escape, no use of a gun, no disciplinary history while in custody, and no sex crimes or arson. According to Dr. Martin Rickler, Vice President of Planning and Research for CSI, the Bureau of Prisons heavily weights their evaluations for contract awards upon the past performance of potential contractors. "If we weren't providing quality services in our other correctional centers," he said. "the Bureau of Prisons would not have awarded us this contract. The award of this contract says that the Bureau values safe, secure and humane correctional services and that we have demonstrated that we can provide these services, help those offenders make the transition back to society, and also benefit the communities within which we work." Dr. Rickler also said that the services to be provided to the CCC residents will include case management, counseling, alcohol and other drug treatment, drug testing, vocational and employment services, and family reunification services. "Furthermore," Dr. Rickler said, "every time a resident returns to the center, he or she will be tested for any alcohol use. The presence of any amount of alcohol on a resident's breath may be enough to return them to prison." The CCC's will open in July. For more information on Correctional Systems, Inc.
